Madison County, Illinois saw the migration of a great number of black families throughout the years. These families moved to the area to find better lives due to the many industries located in the area. Many of these families found employment at Granite City Steel, American Steel, Commonwealth Steel, General Steel Castings Corporation, St. Elizabeth Hospital, local Railroad yards and Olin Corporation to name a few.
