I am researching several African American families in Madison and adjoining counties--Clinton, Washington, and Bond. My Madison County family is the Henry Curtis family. Henry, born circa 1780 in Orange County, North Carolina was a free person of color; listed as mulatto or white. Henry first appeared on the 1820 Bond County, Illinois census; 2nd on the 1825 Clinton County, Illinois state census; next on the 1830 Clinton County, federal census; and the 1840 Madison County, Illinois census. I am unsure if he is the 69 year old listed on the 1850 Washington County census. Other families: Mayhew, Hickman, Pendergrass, Burns and Goins.
Contact for these ancestors is Lyle Gibson, if you can add to this family history please send email.
Looking for information on Rachel THOMPSON WASHINGTON born May 26, 1874 in Missouri or Kentucky. One clue lists Clinton county. I am especially interested in finding information on her parents families. Her parents were James REED and Harriet MOORE. I would like to know if she was married to a Thompson and if so who he was. Rachel lived in Grand Chain, Pulaski County, Illinois from 1880 until around the mid 1920's. She died in Madison, Illinois Madison County on July 09, 1929. She was married to Willis WASHINGTON on July 19, 1880. Their children were Cora, Myrtle, Ben, Nolen and Ada. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
