Laid out in 1866 by William Harrold. It was location was once Valley Forge which was founded by some Revolutionary War soldiers in the early 1800's. The supply depot here was known as "The Villa". It was changed to Villa Ridge after the railroad built a depot.
The hills surrounding Villa Ridge were ideal for berry growing. Strawberries and raspberries being two of the more lucrative crops. The area also produced other crops that added to the prosperity of the area such as asparagus, peaches and sweet potatoes.
