HISTORY OF PEORIA COUNTY, ILLINOIS

Peoria County was named for the Native American tribe Peoria which once resided there. The Illinois river flows through the county. It is the main tributary that connects the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River.

Peoria County is surrounded by Fulton, Knox, Tazwell, Marshall, Stark, and Woodford counties.
